Indiana Sports Betting to Launch September 1

The Indiana Gaming Commission has approved emergency rules to govern sports betting in the Hoosier State. This clears the way for sports betting to begin on September 1. Currently, there are three casinos slated to begin taking action on opening day–Indiana Grand Casino in Shelbyville, Ameristar Casino in East Chicago and Hollywood Casino in Lawrenceburg. Horseshoe Hammond will open its sportsbook on September 4 with French Lick Casino opening on September 6. Eight additional retail sports betting operations are scheduled to open later in the month.

Mobile betting is ‘in the works’ but the expectation now is that it’ll be late in the year. According to the Indiana Gaming Commission, none of the properties in the state have submitted an application to offer mobile wagering. The properties in the state will partner with a ‘vendor’ to offer mobile wagering. Once the properties launch their retail sportsbooks getting the ball rolling to offer mobile betting will likely come quickly.

So who are the Indiana casinos working with? The Ameristar and Hollywood Casinos are both Penn National properties–based on documents from the Indiana Gaming Commission it appears that Penn National will be running things ‘in house’ with Kambi powered technology at Hollywood Casino. From the looks of it, the Ameristar will offer a DraftKings branded sportsbook. The French Lick Casino has partnered with Rush Street Interactive for both retail and online wagering. The Indiana Grand Casino and the Horseshoe Hammond will use Caesars Interactive for their retail sports betting operations. William Hill has announced a partnership with the Tropicana Evansville to run their retail sportsbook (and most likely will be a mobile provider as well). The Blue Chip Casino and the Belterra Resort will have FanDuel powered sportsbooks. Churchill Downs Interactive has reportedly applied for a vendor license as well.
